Filtering Rules in Eudora/ MS Outlook Express/ MS Outlook.
Filter in Eudora:
1. Open Eudora and Go to the Tools: menu and select Filters to open the Filters window.
2. To add a new filter, click NEW .
3. Select the options for how you want the filter to be used:
Incoming: The filter is invoked when messages are received.
Outgoing: The filter is invoked when messages are sent.
Manual: The filter is invoked only when you choose Filter Messages from the Special: menu.
4. Define the criteria for the filter; use the header item drop-down menus and the text fields to specify which header items should include a particular string of text.
For example, select From: at header item and type Spam email address at the contains or select Subject: at header item and type subject of Spam mail.
5. To define an action or actions to be taken on the messages that fit the criteria under Action item.
Select Transfer to as the action.
A box will appear on the right with the mailbox In listed.
Click on the box that says In and a menu will drop down displaying all your mailboxes.
Select New and type JUNKMAIL in the box.
Click OK and Close Filters window
Now this filter will scan all incoming mails in the selected header field and will store in the mentioned folder.
Filter in Outlook Express:
A). Click on the Tools menu, select Message Rules and Mail.
B). The New Mail Rule dialog box appears.
C). In this example the first section,
1) Select the Conditions for your rule: Check mark to the 1st box on
"where the from line contains people".
D). Now in section two, 2. Select the Actions for your rule:
scroll you mouse then check mark on " Delete it from Sever"
E). Now in section three 3.Rules Description:
Apply this rule after the message arrives: Where the from line
contains people Delete it from server
Click on contains people then add the email address.
Filter in Microsoft Outlook:
1. Click 'Tools' at the top of Microsoft Outlook, then select 'Rules.'
2. The 'Rules Wizard' window will appear. Click 'New.'
3. 'Check messages when they arrive' should be highlighted by default. Make sure that it is, and click 'Next.'

5. A box will appear asking "This rule will be applied to every message you receive. Is this correct?" Click 'Yes.'
6. Select 'move it to the specified folder.'
Then scroll down to the bottom of the list and select 'stop processing more rules.'
Now click ' specified ' in the 'Rule description' box, and it will ask you to choose a folder.
7. 'Personal Folders' should be selected by default. Click 'New' to create a new SPAM folder.
8. Type the word 'SPAM' in this window, and click 'OK.' See the next step.
9. A window may appear asking 'Would you like a shortcut to this folder added to your Outlook Bar?' You will most likely want to select 'No.'
10. You should now see the same window from Step 7, but with the added 'SPAM' folder. Click 'OK.'
11. Your window should now look like this. Click 'Next.'
12. At the moment, this SPAM rule will catch all of your email, and move it from your Inbox into the SPAM folder. We need to tell it which email is okay to keep in your Inbox so that you can read it easily.
Click "except with specific words in the recipient's address," then in the 'Rule description' box below, click where it says ' specific words .' Proceed to the next step.
13. In the 'Search Text' box, enter '@dhaka.net'. This will keep any mail addressed to your email address @dhaka.net in your Inbox for easy reading. This will also keep important announcements, which are sent to all members of Dhaka.Net, in your Inbox. All other unwanted mail will be moved into the SPAM folder.
14. Now to specify a name for this rule, type 'SPAM' in the first box. If you currently have a lot of junk mail in your Inbox, select the option to "Run this rule now on messages already in 'Inbox'." This should clear it all out into the SPAM folder when you click ‘Finish.' Make sure that your 'Rule description' matches what is shown below, and that there is a check mark beside 'Turn on this rule.'
Click 'Finish.' |
